Moravian Easter Liturgy
from the 1969 Hymnal of the Moravian Church
Hymn: “The day of resurrection, Earth, tell it out abroad”
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who by His great mercy has begotten us again unto a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead; unto an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, that fades not away, reserved for us in heaven.
Blessing and honor, glory and power, be unto Him Who sits upon the throne, and unto the Lamb, forever and ever.
He was delivered for our offenses:
And was raised again for our justification.
Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect?
It is God Who justifies.
Who shall separate us from the love of God? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors, through Him Who loved us.
For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God, in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
Hymn: “Alleluia! Alleluia! Hearts to heaven and voices raise”
If you then be risen with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on the earth. For you have died, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
When Christ Who is our life appears, then we also will appear with Him in glory.
None of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord.
Whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died, rose, and lives again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.
We would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are asleep, that you many not grieve, as others do who have no hope.
For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep.
As we have borne the likeness of him who came from the dust, so shall we bear the likeness of Him Who came from heaven.
For this perishable body of ours must put on an imperishable form, and this dying body, a deathless form.
What is sown as perishable,
Is raised imperishable;
What is sown in dishonor,
Is raised in glory;
What is sown in weakness,
Is raised in power;
What is sown a physical body,
Is raised a spiritual body.
Then shall come to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory.
Thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Hymn: “Children of God, look up and see Your Saviour”
Glory be to Him Who is the Resurrection and the Life, even Jesus Christ our Lord, the faithful and true Witness, the First-born of the dead, and the Ruler of the kings of the earth. For the kingdom of the world shall become the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
And He shall reign forever and ever, King of kings, and Lord of lords.
Now the God of peace, Who brought again from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant, even our Lord Jesus, make you perfect in every good thing to do His will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ:
To Whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Hymn: “Sing hallelujah, praise the Lord! Sing with a cheerful voice”
